Microneedling With PRP: Revitalize Your Skin With the Ultimate Anti-Aging Facial
Microneedling is the process of creating controlled microwounds in your skin with a device that features dozens of super-thin, stainless steel, sterile, single-use needles. Unlike home dermarolling, microneedling is a precise treatment that doesn’t damage your skin.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a serum that your doctor creates from blood that you donate yourself. It’s a super-charged concoction of healing platelets that are rich in proteins and growth factors to help your body create strong new cells.
Both microneedling and PRP treatments are used to stimulate new collagen production in your skin to create younger, stronger, more glowing skin. But the combination of these two effective anti-aging treatments is better than either one on its own.
At D'Allure Medspa, Frank Batlle, MD, and our aesthetics team use SkinPen® in combination with PRP. Here’s why this combination is the ultimate anti-aging facial that you can get in in Dallas, Texas.
How the SkinPen works
The SkinPen is the first microneedling system that was cleared by the FDA for remodeling skin. The device creates microwounds at the rate of 1600 per second.
These microwounds are controlled, vertical channels that reach down into your mid-dermis, where your skin produces new collagen. The controlled wounding unleashes your body’s restorative and rebuilding processes. Blood rushes to the area to whisk away debris such as old collagen strands.
Your body then starts to rebuild those microwound channels by producing new proteins, such as collagen and elastin. Just one 30-minute microneedling session is enough to jumpstart this healing and remodeling process.
SkinPen works in three phases:
- Inflammation — the immune system begins debris removal and increases blood flow
- Proliferation — your body rebuilds the microchannels with new granulation cells
- Remodeling — new collagen and elastin form to improve skin tissues and blood vessels
The SkinPen works on all skin types, from Fitzpatrick I-IV. It’s safe, sterile, fast, and you see results quickly. Most people only need a few treatments to see results that can last for six months or more.
What PRP does
Doctors have safely and effectively used PRP for more than 10 years to treat injuries and restore aging skin. It. However, PRP has actually been used for more than 70 years, with the process undergoing constant refinements and improvements.
The PRP we create from your own blood is full of healing ingredients that your skin needs to rebuild and remodel itself. The PRP serum is composed mostly of platelets, plus a small amount of plasma (the liquid part of blood) to aid in administration.
After we microneedle your skin, we massage in the PRP serum. These concentrated platelets deliver directly to the microwounds the ingredients your skin needs to rebuild itself quickly and efficiently.
How microneedling and PRP work synergistically
Microneedling and PRP can enhance each others’ capabilities. The PRP makes use of the microneedles’ channels to reach deep down into your dermis, to provide needed ingredients that bolster healing and remodeling. The microneedling enhances the PRP because it allows it to seep much more deeply into your skin than a topical administration would allow.
You can use microneedling and PRP to improve a number of skin issues. Our patients’ favorites include:
- Facial wrinkles
- Acne or other scars
- Sagging neck
- Large pores
- Stretch marks
This treatment may be better tolerated and less painful than some other minimally invasive treatments. In most instances, you can return to your daily life after your latest microneedling/PRP session.
