Microneedling is an aesthetic treatment that delivers impressive results for a variety of concerns. That’s why so many people choose microneedling when they’re looking to enhance the appearance and feel of their skin.
At D’Allure Medspa in Dallas, Texas, we spend a great deal of time researching the latest advancements in medical aesthetics. Only the best available treatment platforms and systems make their way to our office. The SkinPen® microneedling system is a great example.
Let’s delve into how it works and the benefits it offers.
The foundation of what makes microneedling so effective has nothing to do with the system itself but with your own innate healing abilities. Treatments use a handheld device that contains numerous thin, sterile treatment needles.
As the device is moved across the surface of your skin, the SkinPen extends those needles into the deeper layers of your skin in a process that resembles stamping. Your body reacts to each of these tiny punctures as an individual wound and rushes to address the perceived damage (yet the needles don’t cause any significant skin damage).
The result is new collagen and elastin production, giving your skin a layer of fresh, healthy cells that provide padding that tightens your skin. Blood flow to the area increases, and inflammation decreases. Concentrations of pigment break apart, allowing your body’s lymphatic system to eliminate them.
This aesthetic treatment is highly versatile and can address multiple issues in a single session. Some examples of conditions that bring people in for microneedling include:
Most people benefit from a series of treatments, with time in between to allow their bodies to heal.
All this talk of injuries and healing might lead you to believe that the recovery process after microneedling is extensive. In reality, your body adjusts very quickly after the treatment.
A degree of redness, swelling, and bruising is typical in the days after your procedure. Some people see very small spots of scabbing where some of the needles entered the skin. But it only takes a few days for your skin to heal, and there’s no real “downtime” involved.
Simply avoid using harsh products or scrubbing your face in the days after treatments. You should also use a high-quality sunscreen to protect your skin from ultraviolet exposure.
You can boost your microneedling results even further by adding PRP to the treatment. PRP is a highly concentrated solution made from your own blood. Platelets are rich in special proteins called growth factors that prompt new cell development.
PRP can help your body create new tissue swiftly, while also limiting inflammation in the treatment area. It takes less than 20 minutes to perform a simple blood draw and prepare the solution, which we can then apply to the skin during microneedling sessions.
As the SkinPen needles enter your skin, they carry the PRP into the deeper layers, where it goes to work immediately.
